I have a 88-440 truck and waiting on the down time to swap the whiplash cam into the 440.

I swaped in the 318 whiplash roller cam for the magnum engine in the stock JY 91 pre-mag #302 headed 318.

sounds nasty and works in my 85 stepside. has a lot of lowend torque and great throttle responce. woke it right up.

I am in the middle of swaping a NV4500 5 speed into the stepside behind the whiplash roller 318 now.

then the 440 truck is up for a freshin up with a set of 452 heads/headers.

heck, just the edelbroke RPM intake/edelbroke q-jet woke the 78 lopo smogger 440 up in the 88 truck with a 727/3.91sg.

the whiplash may be a gimmick...but that gimmick sure works in a lopo mopar for a daily driver..I sure have more fun with less engine than most have with more engine on the street.

I have more use for a street engine than a race engine.

check out member Junky and his 383 whiplash.. he was real happy with his also.

Beautiful truck, Scratchin'!! Dodge should have offered that color scheme/trim package back then for the 88' pickups. Would have been a big seller. Hey, let us know how well that Whiplash cam runs in the 440. I figure that truck weighs in a 3800-3900 lbs? Probably similar performance as a 68'-69' 440 powered B-Body. Good luck with it and have BIG fun driving it.

thank you! it is/was my first build doing the paint/body work myself.

I shaved a about 200 lbs off the nose of the truck going manual brakes/steering/a/c-heater delete.

it weighed in at 38040 with me and 10 gallons of gas.

yes,I am having some BIG fun with it.

I am running a stock 727 10 3/4 low stall TC in my 85 truck 318 whiplash with a 2.76 gear.

I wager it would surprise you in that lopo smogger Newport with some bolt ons to go with it like 4-v carb/headers with some tunning.

I cant wait to try the nv4500 5 speed behind the 318 whiplash.

I figure to go with a reman stock 727 10 3/4 high stall TC when the 440 truck gets the whiplash cam.
