A LOW gear ...is a SHORT gear. A high gear is tall, steep and BIGGER. And the steepest gear ever offered for the 8 3/4 was a 6.17. And the SHORTEST would be either a 2.41 or 2.45.
NEVER seen one of those though.

A low gear is a steep gear is a high number (like 4.11's)
a high gear is a tall gear is a low number (like 2.76)
