Yes, but, apart from the partial VIN and the upper pad markings, there is also supposed to be a serial number on the engine block.
It should read something like, for example: PM44030280025
Where PM is the Mound Rd. plant 440 is displacement 3028 is date code for 11/11/1969 0025 is 25th engine made that day.
This is supposed to be on the Left side, rear of block, near oil pan flange; per the 70-71 parts book. This isn't a very clear description; it doesn't say whether it's on the side, bottom, or rear face of block.
A picture would help, but, as I said, I've never seen one.
The only place left to look is under the oil pan flange on the bottom of the block.
