I worked/drove a 76 dodge 150 that a plumbing company bought new. /6-3 speed tree/9.1/4 with 12" HD brakes. yep, got lots of funny looks asking for parts on that rear brake job. my 8 1/4 from the 88 longbed has 2.76 gear with 11" brakes. as long as you dont try the A-body 1 3/4" skinny brakes you can use any size from any axle. IIRC that includes a 7 1/4 with 10 brakes not 9" brakes.
