The front sway bars I've seen attach to the strut rods. I've read that some of the very early 1970's sway bars attached directly to the control arm. (Not sure if this is correct?) I've never seen one attached directly to the control arm.

If a guy want's to run a 1.5" sway bar, it would probably be best to attach it directly to the control arm. Such a large sway bar pulling on the much smaller strut rods would probably cause the strut rods to flex and possibly bend.

The vans used the same or similar control arms as the trucks and attached the sway bar directly to the control arm. It may be possible to modify the van's sway bar mounting and make it work on a truck.
