What is the best way to hold the studs to tighten into the heads. How much torque should I apply. (stock 440 cast iron heads). I cannot find the number in Service Manual or Mopar engine book, and am afraid the 30 ft-lbs called out for nuts is too great because of the small contact area of stud unthreaded surface to head female threads. I do not want to rip out these 40 yr old aged threads. I intended to use Permatex Super 300 sealant. Any thoughts. Help.

what studs are you talking about , studs holding the heads to the block or the studs that hold on the exhaust manifolds ? If it's the exhaust studs you have to put a sealer of some sort on them , tightening them is not going to keep them from leaking.
