Hi all,
I am building a new engine for my 68 Coronet R/T to replace the current 440 which is fuming a bit more under load than it should.

I was going to re ring the fumey engine and use it in another B Body project I have on the go (That car is an auto )

The Coronet had the 4 speed installed in about 1970, and also has a 3.9:1 8 3/4 rear end.

For the replacement,I am using a 68 block with a 512 Stroker kit and a set of Stealth heads.

Its going to run a shortish duration but high lift cam with 1.6 ratio rockers, headers,Street Dominator and 870 Holley.

People are telling me it will SHRED the 23 spline box and alumimium bellhousing, which so far has given no trouble.

What do you reckon? Go to the expense of an 18 spline or Tremec?

Or just be a bit careful with dropping the clutch?

Someone must have beat on a 23 spline before??

Nick.

I'm running a 23 spline behind a 472 hemi and a stock Road Runner. The car is street driven. So far I've had no issues other than the no name blocker rings that I put in that causes it to grind every once and while.

I plan on rebuilding it as 3rd gear has always been a bit noisy. Since I have it apart I'll probably upgrade it to 18 spline guts and late model syncro assemblies.
