I would suggest that only for converting a dist to race only (or a very serious street app). To keep the plates stabilized when the vac adv is removed drill 2 holes vertical in the appropriate place between the 2 plates then bolt them together with a small bolt/nut & use a spacer on the bolt shank inbetween the 2 plates so the plates do not tilt/remain parallel when you tighten the nut/bolt. EDIT that'd also be an opportunity to get the rotor phasing dead on. Before you remove the can pump it up gradually till the rotor tip is centered then drill the plates at that point & pin em then remove the can/reset the reluctor gap
