The closet engine I built that made 545 hp was based off a 6.1 block, cnc ported 5.7 heads with 2.05" int and 1.57" exh valves, 4.055" bore/4.05" stroke = 418 cubes, 9:1 compression, 231/236 @ .050 114lsa, 5.7 plastic truck intake and 80mm throttle body.
545 hp at 5600 rpm was all it would make due to the restrictive plastic intake manifold. So the engine only made 1.3 hp per cube which I was hoping for a bit more.
Your gonna have to make 1.37 hp per cube to reach your goal of 540 hp which I think you can do with your tad bit higher compression, don't know much about the cam, but COMP might have them now, your intake, carb and with a 1000 more useable rpm just might get you there.
That truck intake is real good at a mild level. With the cubes you had I see why it was done at 5600. IMO the DP intake is basically a tunnel ram and works extremely well at all RPM.This is were I THINK the power will come from. This whole package should be able to bolt together for less that 5K if you have an spun 5.7 laying around. 2240.00 for short block. Old 5.7 heads 80.00 for G4 camshaft 800.00 for intake 670 for MDS contoller and wiring harness 70 for toner ring 200 for front cover. I'm I missing anything
I would think you would need the G4 timing set and the Comp phaser lock outs. If you pop out the crank to change out tone rings you'll need to replace all the tty fasteners. Or I've been told that the FAST XIM ignition controller will work with the 54 tooth G4 tone ring.
I'd like to see a Combo like this work. Would make a wicked little street motor.
