Going to sound like a broken record, but go to your local DMV and ask them. Things have changed an awful lot in the past couple years in many states, past experiences may not mean anything. A lot of states have a process of titling old cars and trucks, some are easy, some are not.

A bonded title in IL is not too bad anymore as long as you have a receipt from the previous owner. If a guy had a recent receipt from a farmer neighbor that had grandpa's old truck laying out in the back 40 for years, often makes life easier. Old Fords were titled by the motors, if the original motor is gone, proof of ownership is the issue. If your friend can't find Grandpa's title, what do we need to do? That is where I would start, if you know some farmer with some land that has been in the family for a while. You probably don't want to tell them it was abandoned, that is never good. Good luck. Gene
