im pretty sure it doesnt circulate in park. A chevy does, but a 727 doesn't. It may be pumping, but to somewhere, the level will not drop. It is the same in park as with the engine turned off. It will read over full.
Of course the pump is pumping anytime the eng is running but in park the fluid is not pumping thru the circuits or cooler as its pumping back to the sump and the fluid level does not drop. Thats why most factory 727-904 dipsticks will say......check fluid level in neutral with eng running. In park the fluid level will read higher then in neutral since in park the pump is pumping its fluid right back into the sump. I have seen cars with the trans fluid level almost a qt low because the fluid was checked in park instead of neutral.
There are aftermarket kits to modify the valve body so it will flow the fluid thru the cooler and circuits in park that can be installed. Thats why if your 727 sits for days and has the normal converter drainback many have when you start it and put it in gear it wont go in gear right away but if you start it in neutral or go right to neutral before you put it in gear it will then go right in gear since the fluid flows in neutral and will fill the converter right up but it will not fill the converter in park.
