Make sure and rock the piston from the cam side to the outside( I use a thin narrow straight blade screwdrivers between the cylinder wall and the piston stop to raock and hold the piston as I measure, you can push it over also but not sure taht it stays there like it does when being held by the screwdriver blade) amd measure the piston quench pad hieght at both levels I've seen as much as .020 difference that way EDITED Make sure and check the deck hieght on all eight pistons, on all the motors you do It gets real aggrivating when you used one piston and rod to set the deck hieght with and then find out later after you checked all eight deck hieghts that you have rods that vary .013 in length
