As I've read in several other postings lately, I also have an inaccurate fuel sending unit in my 1970 Coronet. Anything less than half full and it shows just between below Empty to slightly above Empty.

I am going to try my luck at a new unit to see if I can get a better reading.

My question is -- Can I remove the sending unit with the tank in the car? And do I need to drain the gas tank dry first?

Also, a second question -- Has anyone sent off their sending unit along with their fuel gauge to have them calibrated together? Does this work to get an accurate reading?

Thank you for all the info!
