I believe all the Jeeps with mopar 360's used the magnum 360 instead of the LA360. The magnum engines offer quite a few advantages over the older LA engines. I would verify that the Jeep does in fact have a 360. Most of the mopar powered Jeeps used the 318 magnum.

If the car must pass a smog inspection, a 79 engine probably won't pass in a 1980 car. (assuming the inspector realizes the engine has been swapped) As I understand it, a newer engine will frequently pass in an older car, so long as all the emission components are kept on the newer engine. The best plan would be to talk with the smog folks before swapping the engine.

I believe the 1991 and older Jeeps used the AMC 360 engine. The AMC 360 has a decent reputation. I don't know of any parts to bolt an AMC engine into a mopar F body though. With a welder, torch and enough time and money, it could be done. A mopar 360 would be MUCH easier though!
