Who knows how many times it has been bought and sold between 2001 and 1971 and where it was registered.

Maybe you could start with the D.M.V. in Cottage Grove Oregon and see if it lists where the car was titled before? Then so on and so on.
It seems I've heard stories to this affect, but maybe they were just, stories.
