Hey Y'all,
OK, we are trying to figure out,how much has been cut off our deck surface on our indy -1 heads. Does anyone have a set of virgin heads? They can get measurements down the bolt holes on valley side and exhaust side. Our heads are about 20 years old and no telling how many times a surface cut has been made. I called indy and russ told me there isnt a way to measure the head, but to cc it , problem is chambers have been worked and reworked and welded too many times in last 20 years. Thanks John

The most important part is the CCs for compression, the clearences can be adjusted with different head gasket thickness. The basic head was 75cc.With the different thickness of the head gasket you can regain the basic demension height for the intake and other fitment issues. An example if the head was cut .100 then add .100 to the gasket thickness to get back to virgin demensions. We used to cut block decks and heads for compression ratios and when we wanted them back to stock we just used thicker head gaskets and sometimes gasket shims. With the advent of MLS gaskets like Cometics you can get most any thickness you want.
