I think you hit the nail on the head! I always wondered how it could go 111 mph? In 1972, mine was slightly modified, ran strong and, with open headers and slicks, would only go 109 mph. It was hard to understand how they could leave a magazine test car in a place where the parts could be stolen in a day and age when that kind of stuff was rampant? I think Ronnie Sox didn't want to be embarrassed with a basic 104 mph car, called his friend John Baughman and John said he would be there to save the day! Even with Ronnie Sox driving, he couldn't get an extra 6 or 7 mph out of a stock A12 with stock exhaust without a major modification! I am certain of
this! I think they got into it big time in the shop and now those fantastic test results are memorialized for all time...which is fine by me because I have one!
