There are a couple of stories told about the car's retirement at Daytona. One is about a crew member error causing the DNF. This version of the story comes from Roger Meiners' interview of Peter Dawson, who was the team manager of the effort at Daytona. Another, published in a magazine report on the race published in May of that year states " ... blew spectacularly as it blasted down the first infield straight.". Does anyone have any insight into which story is more accurate?

An EBay vendor with the screen name "bobbystareyes" pointed out to me that there were a couple of photos of the Belvedere in Dave Friedman's books. "Cobra" page 150, and "Shelby GT40" page 30. They are both start shots of the field.

Happy New Year to all!
