What we used to do (with a lift of course) was get every thing off and loosened up(pull battery and filter etc IIRC) and lower the lift with a rolling table underneath and just shake it out. Lift it up, slap a seal in it(they sometimes just blow right out) set er back down, line the trans up , couple of bolts, and finish installing.
