Customer has an extremely low mileage 69 Daytona. I will be restoring the starter and was soliciting ideas on how to recreate the sealing "dope" used between the plastic brush housing and the aluminum starter body. Looks like Chrysler originally used some type of body sealer that I'm sure is long gone. After 42 years the original sealant has gotten somewhat brittle but doesn't appear to ever have been flexible like todays silicon based products. So I want to stay away from things like RTV. Also the sealant appears to have been black in color when originally applied and was put on very crudely. Anybody using any type of panel sealant/seam sealer that would mimick the above? Anyone have another idea? Thanks in advance for any and all responses.
