I have a low mileage one ton that I use to tow my camper. I have not put any miles on it lately except for starting it up and moving it in and out of the shop. It only has 24,000 total miles. The last couple of times I started it, it had an engine check light come on. Once it ran a little rough and I killed it and waited a minute and then restarted it. Then it ran fine. Now the dash information display says my exhaust is 80% full and needs to be regenerated. Can this be cured by a short road trip to get it hot or let it idle? I plan on checking into eliminating the system from the exhaust but have not looked into the best one yet. Any suggestions will help. Thanks.

You will have to take it out on the highway for a drive. I don't remember exactly but I think it's over 45 MPH for 20 minutes. Your owners manual should have the specifics.

Take it for a ride and once it gets up to operating temp start beating on it on the freeway. Go from a 40 mph run to a 70 mph run and back down and repeat. Keep watching the computer readout and you will see the 80% number keep dropping until it disappears. These trucks need to be worked to operate correctly with the dpf system.

Mine does not have the system that uses the def fluid but I guess it’s still the same deal, correct?

It doesn't use DEF but still needs to clean the particulate filter. The DEF is only for NOX emissions as far as I know, it doesn't help to clean the filter. Like I said, it should all be in the owners manual.

Correct - mine does not use the fluid either. Do not let it get clogged all the way or it will stop running and then it's a dealer regen that cost $$$$.

Working on these trucks I’d delete that era of pickup so fast it’d make your head spin. The 13 newer with DEF has been a much more reliable package.

Not really an option for me. It’s paid for only has 20,000 miles. I’m considering deleting stuff since it’s out of warranty.

We have four of that era truck at work.... 1 tech, 2 sales guys, and our service manager. ALL deleted... we still stock two turbos for the 07-12 6.7's. It seems when things go sour with that system, they go big and they go expensive!! Key to delete is doing it before you have a problem. I think you'll find it's money well spent, especially if you are keeping the truck. You'll be able to extend your oil changes (saves you money) since you won't have regen events polluting your crankcase oil with fuel. You should also see a substantial MPG increase up there with the newer DEF equipped trucks.

I nearly bought an 11 last year with full intent of deleting it, but the price was high and after pulling my race trailer with it, I either have a pretty good tune in my 01, or that 11 was a dog!!

btw EFI Live Wire seems to have a pretty good package and support. H&S used to, but after getting their nuts squeezed by the EPA, they only sell now and if you have a prob good luck getting it resolved.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought you meant sell the truck.
