We are transferring a complete 74 K cop car driveline into a 74 Monaco to make another Bluesmobile (A cop motor, 440 plant, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, the model before catalytic convertors LOL). The Monaco was a 360 car way back but came here with a 318 and new mini starter. Will that mini starter work on the 440. I have them side by side and looks like it will fit. Wires are located slightly different. Anyone try this?
Also, Dr. Diff and Glenray radiators were learned about on here. Both top shelf operations and thanks for the reference. Joliet Jake

It will fit but you may need to shorten the primary wiring stud because it will be pointed right at the engine block. I have had some clear with 3/8" & some will hit the block.

most of them have an adaptor piece you remove from the stud to make it short.
or it will have a short stud. some HP after market minis need a trim on the stud either way no biggie.
I use one from a 92 dak with a 5.2 on my 88-440 truck and have it on my 85-318 truck.
they spin a BB over way faster than the old style gear reduction starter but they don't have the OLD MOPAR sound. which I missed at first but the fast starts and weight reduction when hefting it up into place made up for it fast.
FYI good upgrade- I also used a 120 amp denso mini alt off a late 80s van on the 440 truck. no more dim lights at idle in gear with it.
I keep my old style starters on the shelf as a collector item now days. LOL!

I agree that using a Dakota starter is easier because of the electrical connections. They are readily available at any auto parts store but you can often get a reman at a salvage yard for $35 or so.
And if the car still has the main power wire going through the bulkhead connector, make the change to relays for the headlights. Cheap and easy and will save your dash wiring and make the headlights much brighter.
Master, again and still

Thanks guys. This is the 85 amp alt off the K doner. BUT I don't think the Monaco has that many wires. Have the harness off the cop car so may compare to Monaco. Also check out the fuel filter with bracket. Probably hard to find that. Jake

The vapour canister attached to the fuel pump was standard on all 440 cars for years and IIRC,Hemi's too. They are available in REPOP. I recommend using the harness from the same car the alternator came from. The higher amperage requires the heavier wiring to match or risk a nuclear meltdown. Test for continuity and repair any damage to the wires prior to installing. Wrapping it with fresh tape will make it look purdy, too. Hope this helps!

BTW,the mini-starter I have works great and despite the tight clearance,I had no issues installing and using it on my 383.
