New to this board and hoping there is more info and knowledge here than other forums.

I just picked up a 66 Plymouth Satellite out here in AZ, Apparantly the car has been parked since 1980 in a shed on a chicken farm. Car is all there minus the motor which is why it was parked in the first place. No dents, no rust, all metal trim is in awesome shape. the interior is a little dirty but otherise original and decent, previous owner did cut up the dash to install a stereo and put some holes in the doors for speakers. Checking the VIN# it came with a 361 2 bl, premium interior and A/C.

I have a 440 stroker motor and built 727 trannie that i'll throw in.
I'd really like to build this into a S/S replica car Big jacked up rear end, tall skinny tires up front swap out the hood for a fiberglass RO23 scoop piece. Anyone ever seen the 67 GTX Silver Bullit?? I'm thinking Silver paint on the car and saving the black interior.

Couple of pics. I have the headlight and tailight pieces, they were in the trunk.

There's tons of stuff from Google about it. Here's something from Car Craft -

The lilac paint on your car is very uncommon ...it flip flops around in varying light conditions.Much cooler than silver imo.

Mauve Metallic is a rare color and it looks awesome when painted fresh with todays paint.

Muave is a favored color everywhere since so few remain today. Make her into the bad @$$ original Muave Missile instead of just another Silver Bullit clone. Nice find either way. Nick

The nice thing about the Muave/Lilac is that I could get away with not spraying the trunk, engine comp. jams since those areas are in really great shape. I might try to just run over to Big Lots and pick up some paint rollers and roll the paint on in my driveway, I hear that's the latest craze!

Since I don't have the time or money to restore the car properly right now I may just throw in the 440 and other parts i have laying around and drive/race it. If I can get it running in time I may drive it from Phoenix up to the Mopars at the Strip In Vegas (march 20-22)

Glad some people beat me to it - Mauve adds demand for your car. If you don't like it, sell it and make a Bullet replica on a red car! And if it's a 383 stick car, all the more reason to keep it original!

When you do get around to restoring the entire car...start a thread in the "Member Projects and Survivors Pictures" section. It is a fairly new section and any pictures you post will stay there for the entire build process. Welcome to Moparts!!!

Nice find but just so you know, that's a fiberglass copy of a 1963/1964 Max Wedge style hood scoop, not an RO23 scoop like the 1967 Silver Bullit ran.

Yeah I know thats the Max Wedge scoop, It was on the car when I bought it.(not correct for a 66 and looks ugly too) I'm planning on putting the RO23 scoop on a fiberglass hood

There's a local guy that had a 66 painted that color recently and it is sweet. Another vote for mauve.

On a lighter note I mentioned to two ladies at work today about there mauve outfits matching. They told me it wasn't right that I knew what mauve was but when I explained about it being a Mopar color in 66 they understood!

BTW, I agree with the others above, the Mauve colored cars are quite scarce, not many were built in that color. I'd prmote not changing it, they can look REALLY nice when freshly painted.

If it were mine, I would clean it up as best I can, drop in the 440 and drive it around in as-found-in-barn condition. Original paint, even worn, looks much more interesting to me than restored. But that's just me, I'm weird that way.

I would keep the stock color and put all of the Satellite trim back on. '66's were sweet...

another vote for keeping the Muave.
think of it as the "panther pink" of the 60's

Well I guess I am the odd man out on this one.. I say paint it any color you want and enjoy it.. I much rather see it in silver and on the road being enjoyed then it sitting in a barn at a chicken ranch waiting for that one special guy to come along with money falling out of his rear that wants a show perfect car...

Great find.. And keep us updated on it..

I'm not sure I follow;

- repainting silver means he'd drive it and repainting it mauve would mean it would be show perfect?

I think it would be the opposite; repainting it silver (properly) would take more time and effort and the car would have more of a chance to sit unused than an exterior only repaint in the original color.

He can do whatever he likes; I'd repaint it mauve OR drive as is for now.

Dave
