the cage in my 33 dodge humpback panel truck has the main hoop set back 18" from the "b" pillar that would exist on a car. this is where the door hinges are, as this is a suicide door vehicle. the side bars pass by, as would be expected. in a suicide door car, body flex can cause the doors to pop open unless you have special lock pins going into the front door jamb [which i have]. would it be beneficial to have the hinge area [as well as the front latch area] tied to the side bar to help keep body flex down ? or would this be detrimental in a side impact ? the seat position is also behind the rear hinge post for the doors. seats are not final mounted at this time. [long term build project] what thoughts are out there ? as always, TIA. bow

Is this a bar or full cage? Will it need to be legal or certified to race?

If it's a cage, a dashbar, close to the firewall and tied into the body at numerous locations including the A pillars, will tighten that part of the body up a bunch.

I like to keep the tubes out close to the body in certain locations and use, what I would call, mini outriggers in places like the A & B pillar areas, package shelf or rear window area, etc., to tie the unibody into the chassis. They are usually .750 or .875 tubing and are normally very short and not real noticeable. This, along with proper frame ties substantially tied into the floor and the chassis, will tighten it up considerably.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Mine has the main hoop tied to the B pillar. The down bars are tied to the windshield frame and fire wall. Snout bars are tied into the front shock towers. Prettt hard to be to ridgid.

i should have included a couple of pics, as this is a body/chassis car. it does have a full cage with dash bar and snout bars running through the firewall to the front suspension.
