im bulding a 500 hp motor w-5 heads is it better to use a older block????

i would seriously look into a aftermarket block, if thats not in your budget get the block sonic checked so you know what your limitations are, btw mines a 78 checked a little thin, buts holding up with a half fill

15x10 4.5 or 4.75 id have to dig up the paperwork, running a hoosier 10x29 tire, minitubbed

There seems to be more variation in wall thickness from block to block than there is from year to year. Simply put, some early blocks aren't very good & some late ones check out fine and vice versa. As suggested previously have it sonic checked if you want to be sure. Otherwise limit the overbore to .030 and hope for the best. One minor point, on early [ '71-'75 ] blocks the main bearing bolt holes are blind. Later ones are open and possibly [?] that area may not be as strong.
