I have decided to put a hemi in my 67.
Do to my transmission's power rating, I need to stay in the under 550 power range.
(tko600)

I purchased a crank and rods from a fellow moparts member, and before grabbing pistons I need a block.

With Hemi and affordability not necessarily going hand-in-hand...what would be my best route for a streetworthy block to build on?

Looks like I can get one from Indy for $3800 plus machining. Thanks for any advice.

Ray Barton Racing Engines is showing new KB Hemi blocks available.

There was a thread on the race only page a few weeks ago covering this same question. If you don't get help in here you can repost your question in the race only section as well.

Call around and see what is available. FHO, Best Machine, Barton, etc.

You might also look for a used crate engine. Those engines come up for sale once in a while.

Cost is the same for a 426 and a 572, with the affordability of cranks/rods/pistons from any of the manufacturers. I would go with the largest engine you can build and just keep it mild. My 572 is only 9.5 to 1 compression and I have a 242@.050 .628 roller cam in it, torque and horsepower is enough that it doesn't really stress the engine. Tim

Let us know what you buy because I’ve not heard of any cast iron blocks available. Aluminum is out there but by the time you get one properly machined, it’s more like 6 to 7 grand. Mopar supposedly has 150 iron blocks ready to release and another company has some iron ones in the works but so far just broken promises is all we get. You might find a good used block or an new one from the last batch still out there, but don’t count on it being cheap. I’ve still got one I’m saving for my next build and I’ve had some pretty decent offers on it once it get known that I have a new one left.
