At wits end. Totally rebuilt engine, new carb on a 383, use the highest octane gas available and still have major pinging on the least bit of incline or acceleration. Any ideas? Timing had been adjusted once already too.

are you sucking oil? that will cause it to ping. What is your initial and total? vac advance hooked up? try setting you total at 34* w/o vac advance and see what happens. What carb? you might be lean.

More info: How much initial. ported or vacuum. What RPM do the springs (& therefore the mech advance) max out at. What springs. How much cranking compression. What carb/jets/rods/springs etc (I'm assuming the mixture ain't too lean). heat riser off after warmup? What fuel (E10 or not)
