Has anyone ever successfully bushed an 8 3/4 axle bearing housing after the bearing spun? If so, what procedure did you use?

I really would like to use this housing on my 65 Fury restoration as the overall condition of this rear housing is much better than all the other ones I have.

I could replace the end but much rather not..........

I have used some loc-tite quik metal that is just for this kinda fix with bearings and races.

I have had good result with a lot of the loc-tite products.

you could knurl the surface to hold the race,I have done that on some 68 dart 9" drum brake hubs that were wobbled out got one to work, the other not so much.

you could maybe go to green bearings,it has the o-ring that might help hold the race.

my greens are running with out inner seals for the last 3 yrs and no leaks, but the ends are not spun so it an idea/option maybe

I have a tube of the loc-tite quik metal you you need it

If you can find a lathe with enough swing/length to handle the housing it's doable. To do a C-body housing you'd probably need an 18" X 80" lathe.

The one I did was mounted to the tailstock on a bull nose live center and the outside of the housing end turned until it was round and then mounted in the steady rest. I made up a .060" wall repair sleeve beforehand and put it in the freezer overnight, then bored the housing end and drove in the sleeve...once the temperature equalized I bored the sleeve to size and faced off the end.

Loctite Quick Metal.. I worked for a major bearing supplier in the repair facility, we repaired hundreds of gear boxes every month, if the damage to the bore is the typical spin marks without really taking out allot of metal Loctite Quick Metal works surprisingly well.. The first few times I saw it getting used I figured it wouldn't last, When the same (very large) gearbox came back two years later for a freshening & the race hadn't moved I tend to trust it allot more... An Axle bearing doesn't come close to the load a heavy industrial gearbox sees... I wouldn't hesitate to trust Quick Metal...

I have the same issue. A spun bearing in my 8-3/4 axle housing end.

Follow the link below to a post from Pirate4x4.com

Start towards the bottom of page 6, skip past the BS on the top of page 7, and then on to this guy's test results using Permatex's sleeve retainer pn 64000, the equivalent to Loctite 609. The green stuff.

Pretty impressive.

I think I'm going to use it with piece of mind.
