Car looks great but it appears to have incorrect exhaust tips.

I did not have Paul go to the expense of finding a NOS exhaust system as I'm not going for OE Gold. I trust Paul's judgement as his (and Troy's)cars seem to have won an awful lot of Gold at the Nats over the years. But thanks for the observation. Maybe one of the Mopar judges can shed some light here.

It's a nice car. Don't be offended by any comments. There is a lot of combined experience on this forum!

The wheel covers look good on the 69's! A lot more RR's and Barracudas came with them than what you see at the shows. Is your air cleaner pan red or orange? It's hard to tell in the photo.

Right on John....here's my '69 road runner circa Summer 1969 and if you look close (stop looking at the girl for a second ) at the rear.......wheel, that's the very same wheel covers that came on my car new....

Mike: Unfortunately the girl is young enough to me my grandaughter, hence my Moparts name. What is circa?
I really don't remember these cars with the full wheel covers but then again I didn't make too many mental notes back then. ( I was 19 years old and had a new daughter in 1969)

No offense taken. I really appreciate the comments as that is how we all learn new things about these old classic cars.

Mopar Grandpa,
i am in no way trying to hammer your car, as i said, it's very nice but you said you wanted to kerep it original. Here is a picture comparing your tips to the correct tips. As mentioned the originals are more oval. If you're OK with it then that's all that really matters. Maybe you can contact PJ and he can shed some light on this.

No one should worry about me. I'm a big boy and can take any comments that are given as I know most everyone is trying to be helpful, including yourself. I'm sure PJ will be reading this thread and if there was an oops I'm sure he'll let me know and get the correct set. I'm just happy to have it back home. Thanks for the pic's.

Gramps,( ) that photo was taken back in the Summer of 1969 and that's my older sister and she was 21 years old back then in '69 so she was and is older than you. She used to wait for the mail to show up everyday in hopes of getting a letter from her then boyfriend and now husband who was in Vietnam in the U.S. Army back then. Seeing that he is now her husband he did make it back but a lot of our friends didn't from our small steel town in Western PA . That was my first car and I too was 19 back then in 1969 so you and I are the same age there "Gramps" and now I feel really, really old thanks...... I sat down with my dad at the local Plymouth dealer in the Spring of 1969 and ordered that car new with a 383, Torqueflite, 3.91 Suregrip/Super Track Pack, bucket seats, console, black interior with F5 limelite GREEN paint and hood stripes, Air Grabber, power steering and the A01 light package and full wheel covers (just like yours) because I wanted a set of Ansen Sprint slotted aluminum wheels with a set of Goodyear Raised White Letter Polyglass tires in G or H 70 14's for it. I put a set of Hooker Headers on it before the year was up and cooked probably five or six starters and changed every one of them in my parents driveway for the next few years and never did realize what was making the starters go bad until I came on here three and a half decades later or circa (around) 2000. I owned that Road Runner for ten years until 1979 and regretted selling it everyday after I sold it and swore I'd get another......which I did and then some.

As John said lots of Plymouths had those same wheel covers as on your Road Runner back then and my '69 Road Runner was one of them. As for the exhaust tips Plymouth's signature tips were oval and Dodge's signature tips were rectangular or more square in shape.

MikeR

Nice Road Runner BTW, love the GREEN on a Mopar always have for some reason and love the wheel covers too, brings back "old" times MikeR

the car is stunning!!!
I love the painted top and full wheel covers. Im sure I would have a second set handy as was mentioned earlier but man does that look so cool with the red lines and wheel covers! the restoration looks amazing, I was talking with Troy(I think) at Carlisle last summer and was actually considering having them take on my stalled project. (fortuantly my friend TC hooked me up with someone local!)

Beautiful car! I'm not an expert but those are not the correct exhaust tips.

Even with the wrong tips the car took Best Mopar at a local car show today and even the judges didn't notice. I have got to get a new pair of glasses.

That is stunning!!

I'd get a set of Ansen (or something old school) wheels for a day two look and keep the hubcaps tucked safely away. The car is

WOW Grandpa! Your car is STUNNING! I like the "fresh out of the dealership" look. Isn't it fun to drive 'em and get comments from others? (and I'm sure yours gets the comments!)
