into Car yet, took the valve cover off left bank
to make sure # one piston was at correct TDC for
setting Dist.and it looks like valve cover gasket
is gonna leak already, and I haven't even run Engine yet!! Somebody who's been thru this already

A good quality cork gasket, glued to the valve cover, a little bearing-grease smeared on the other side, has worked for me for decades. Gotta make sure the valve covers are straight/flat at their sealing surfaces. No leaks, not even a film.

Any VC gaskets should work fine. Just make sure the VC "rail" that the gasket sits-into is flat and not warped. And do NOT over-torque it.

I make it a practice to use a cast alum VC if possible.

I use MrGasket Ultraseal gaskets glued to cast aluminum covers with weatherstrip adhesive(gorilla snot). They have been on and off many times and never leak a drop.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.
