i have a 68'dodge coronet with a 440, mini starter and headers, i have only driven about 50miles on the car since restoration, i currently have the hood off replacing hood hinges, i was cranking the car and noticed when i crank up the car i can see a little smoke coming from the positive cable, and starter is not turning as it suppose too, it is kinda like when you have the timing too high and the motor will not turn over fast, it only does it when i first crank the car after sitting for couple of days or week, once the car runs it cranks fine no problems, i have checked the connections, they all seem fine, do you think the starter is sticking and causing the fire to go back to the battery and causing the smoking?

let me clarify, i only see a little proof of light smoke, can barely see it, when i first crank the car after sitting for days or weeks, the starter kinda of drags, it sounds like when you have the timing too high and the motor drags and barely spins, i spin the motor, then on the 2nd spin the car cranks, i have no other problem , once it is crank, i hope i am explaining this in an understanding way?

Clean and check your connections. Make sure that they are tight. Poor, loose, dirty connections create resistance and resistance creates heat. All grounds are clean and tight and a good ground from the rear of the engine to the firewall.

so, your saying check the ground on the battery and the ground on the motor and firewall?

What MFL said; clean (R&R if necc) the connection where it's smoking

I also said that there should be a good ground from the back if the engine to the fire wall. It can make a world of difference.
Believe it or not the engine is not truly grounded to the body of the. It is mounted on rubber insulators, as is the transmission and the rear end.
