On your Indy intake did you have a lot of core shift? The intake I got had excessive core shift and I was wondering if yours had the same?

Our engines are very similar, here are some specs on mine:

493
Solid roller
CNC Stealths
Indy dual plane
950 Proform

Please lend me some thoughts on the intake, also if you can where did you get it from? Thanks.

Hey Ron, the setup looks good. Guess you might have to mill a small amount of material off the intake to get it to fit. Let me know if you need help with it. I'll have one of my guys machine it for you.

Hey Ron, I had to have a lot of material milled off of my intake. I'm using an alumn 6 pak set-up. Most of the heat cross-over passage is now gone off mine. Prob going to have to mill some off. Jeff

Believe me it hits a good bit with the center plate installed on the valley cover plate that it will still hit with the gaskets in place. I will just do the grinding and get it to fit. This Indy dual plane kinda reminds me of an RPM intake on steroids. Ron

I have not noticed any core shift but I will check closer. I bought the intake from Dwayne Porter who opened it up to Max Wedge size for me. He does great work. Oh I also use that same Moroso oil pan also. Ron

Thanks Jack but I think I can just use my grinder and get it but if it is more hassle then that I will let you know. Thanks , Ron

So if I see it right, the bottom/center of the intake is very low (like a stock type intake) and hits the valley plate cover. Seems odd that Indy designed all these parts and they don't fit together.

Is this very common with the Indy Dual plane on their heads?
EDIT: I see from your other post that other people had the same problems.

Well in Indy's defense, the Dual Plane intake is designed to fit on any RB standard port head motor, not only for Indy heads. So this would typically mean a conventional Valley pan. And of course if you think about it, the Valley plates were designed specifically to adapt their raised port Indy heads to either a B or RB block. Indy heads have no heat crossover....so provision to clear the exhaust crossover "belly" was probably not a design consideration.

The amount of clearancing I had to do on a B motor Stage VI wasn't really that much and it was easier to grind down the valley plate than the underside of the intake. to be honest I fully expected to have to do something to clear it knowing the Dual plane was designed for a valley pan.

Ron, if Dwayne ported your Dual plane to Max Wedge like I did mine you'll be suprised how much air that puppy will move! Too bad they don't make a 4500 flange model as well, although I believe the plenums have enough meat on either side to do it.

Those intakes have a ton of core shift. When I bought mine I didn't notice it till I'd loaded it in the car. I was going to swap it but decided to look at the others before lugging all the way back. Indy had 5 out on the table and ALL were as bad. The cast port openings are off - even after being CNC'd to MW size and at least one bolt is not going to go in without major clearancing for the bolt head.

Their stuff may "work" but it sure as hell does not have the production quality of other manifold manufacturers.

I don't know what the issue is with the Indy QC issues, maybe we should get someone from Indy to Represent here.

The one I have on my 517 was fine, I bought it used from moparts mamber GCH and since then it's ported to within an inch of its life. I like this manifold a bunch for my MW combo

To me the intake reminds me of the EZ heads in the fact that the internal ports look Max Wedge size as they just make the runners smaller at the opening to use standard port heads if you like. All you have to do is port them about an inch or 2 deep to max wedge size like the EZ heads are. Well I am going out in the garage and see how it goes. Ron

As I said in the PM, the 337 may be a good option because it will clear your hood PLUS MP doesn't cast the runners to full MW out of the box, they're closer to 1/2 way between a standard BB ~2.27 x 1.13 port and a 2.6 x 1.3 max wedge. as I said I take HSD's out bigger than the 337 is out of the box. You wouldn't have to open up your Stealth heads much to match the 337...if you can't get Mancini or indy to do you right and get you a good 2D intake to replace the defective one,....assuming you haven't it!

The crossover part on the bottom of the intake cut off with no problems and it now clears fine. I will post a pic when I download it. Thanks for the replies , Ron

Yea, good luck with them! I made 3 trips to Indy, because they forgot to give me all the nec. parts for my EZ heads...and it was my fault! I was even told to my face "your wasting your time" asking about a stroker kit. I was hoping they would help me decide the correct one to buy. Jeff

I think that you would have already mentioned it, but has there been any milling done on your block or on your heads? I have the same intake on a pair of SRs and I don't have this clearance issue (I don't have the valley plate with the window because I'm cheap and like to spend ridiculous amounts of time swapping cams).
It is a tight fit on mine, but I would've thought that with the clearance would have been better with the windowed valley plate.

I used my air wizzer with a 4" carbine cutting wheel. Worked like a champ. Now I have to smooth it over and paint it again. Ron

Ron , what paint did you use to paint that intake ?

The Indy dual plane I have had a hole in the roof of the lower plane into the plane above it, I saw it when I looked in thru the intake port side of the intake and was wondering why I could see daylight thru the carb flange.

Is the top of your intake drilled for both pattern carbs? The intake I got has got to be a blem or something. It is warped (not square) only one bank fits the intake holes. The intake wont even set on the heads straight. The block and heads are square. I can set an edelbrock tq on it and a team G and both fit the engine perfect. This Indy seems to be twisted over 125 thou and the ports and bolt holes dont match up on one side. We are sending it back to Mancini. They gave us the ok. I have never had an intake that was wider than the deck height this bad. Even the bottom of the intake flanges are on an angle. At first I thought it was because of useing stealth heads. But this intake is just plain bad.

Sorry I must have forgot. No the top is not drilled for both carb setups. I would have to use an adapter to run a dominator. I will have to use my 850 DP to start with until I can get another carb. Ron
