I posted some pics of my survivor back in November after a light clean up. These are current. On it's way to shop tomorrow for new paint, stripe and vinyl top. Body wise, all I have used to date is Nu-Finish and spray detailer. Main reason for repaint is dented passenger front fender(previous owner vs mailbox) and loads of surface scratches from what appears to be a dry rag wipe down. Stripe has several nicks and chips along the edges. Vinyl top is decent, but has dry spots that won't go away.

I agree not to paint it, the minor dent & scratches add character...... but it's your car!

Oh man I wouldn't paint that car either! I would get painless dent removal to fix the fender and I'd live with the scratches. Of course I didn't pay for it and you did so naturally you can do what feels right for you. No shame in the way it is though, lovely car!

I wouldn't paint that car ever.......I think you will actually hurt the value. Not too many orignal paint cars still out there. Your money can be spend in better places, like front end other places but the last place would be paint for that car.

For the absolute best powder coating go to J.I.T powder coating, contact infomation is in my personal profile..

I'm with everyone else. DO NOT paint that car!!!

Right now the paint is a little faded, the chrome on the bumpers is worn and all the other components are showing their age. BUT, it's a survivor...it's supposed to look like that.

Once it has fresh paint, the bumpers are still going to look worn and all the other components are still going to show their age. It's going to look like a half a$$ed restoration with just new paint. If it gets painted, your going to have to redo everything else so it looks as good as the paint.

Sorry guys, I dropped it off this morning. Rechromed bumpers in the works. Got a lot of stainless buffing ahead of me. Tracking wheel opening trim now, got maybe 1 good piece out of the 4. All new Metro seals and bumper brackets have been powder coated. New headliner after paint, one in car is not original and a poor install. Still need lower door panels and an original dash pad.

hope it turns out good and you picked a decent shop. I would've left it alone though. But it is your car. To each his own.

Nooooooooo !
Cries the guy who used to own a '74 Aztec gold Rallye charger, factory 318 pistol grip 4 speed with brougham interior panels, aztec pattern bucket seat inserts, and a bunch of little options.
Damn i miss that car.
Was jealous when i saw your car on DodgeCharger.com.
Now, not as much.......
Should be beautiful though when done.

I think it will look great with a fresh paint job...I hate the thought of driving around in a car with dents, scratches and stuff...That would drive me nuts

Actually, the roof was close to mint. That brown is glue residue from the vinyl. Only the pillars had rust, passenger side the worst, but not bad considering.

Im glad youre moving forward! I agree with Alan, I would rather have a beautiful cruiser than a dented and scratched one!

I started with a need for some motor work

No holes . Was a little leary doing it, but poked all around with an ice pick and no soft spots found. Just surface rust.

Windshield was pulled and no rust found under the glass. These are from this morning. Looks great to my eyes, but Eddie says paint was a little heavy on the metallic and has some tiger stripes showing on the hood and trunk. I couldn't see them. He is going to switch to Dupont and reshoot in a few days.

Been dragging my feet updating the status, but here are a few of the latest pics.

Respray done and waiting for cut and buff

From this past weekend.... car buffed and waiting for the windshield to be put back and the stripes

Windshield in and stripes going on. Crappy cell phone pics here.

Getting ready for short cruise home. Temporary install of rear bumper for brake lights.

Squeezed in next to my '73. Now to put it back together so I can drive it safely across town to get the vinyl top installed. I'll finish my '73 tail lights while the '74 gets the vinyl and then I'll have both to drive the rest of the summer.

Looks really good. I know a lot of people tried to convince you to keep the original paint but they don't have to hear the critics tell you that the car looks great but the paint is old. Better you should do what you want and enjoy what you have than live up to someone elses take on the car.

That looks terrific. My guess is you're shorting yourself on sleep so you can hang parts on it faster!

I can only do an hour or so in the garage. Too hot, can't take it like I could 10 years ago , even with fans.

Got a few things done the past few weeks when I could stand the heat. Detailed the radiator support and front panels, put all of the bumper brackets together and installed the bumper. A fun job when working alone. Installed the a/c condensor, but waiting on the top brackets and dryer brackets from the powder coater. Installed the door handles, locks, side marker lights and mirrors and the nos wheel opening trim I picked up a few weeks ago. Waiting on a call to get the vinyl top and headliner installed, hopefully this week. Still have loads of paint shop mess to clean up.

Mostly completed, less a few small pieces, more detailing and getting the a/c charged.

It looks great!

I used home store foil coated insultation for my RR and Javelin.
I have not got enough use out of it to tell how it does and lasts yet.

Stephen, great work on a beautiful car! These 3rd generation Chargers are just as cool as their brothers before them... you just need to find one with the correct options/color combo and you sir did that.

Congrats again on a sweet ride....

Enjoy,
Bryan

Well: It sure stands out amidst that sea of ugly new Challengers at that car show! Looks great.

It looks great!

I used home store foil coated insultation for my RR and Javelin.
I have not got enough use out of it to tell how it does and lasts yet.

I got a roll of 2 ft by 25 ft at Lowe's and used spray adhiesive. Later this fall I'll pull the front seat and carpet and complete the job. 2 rolls at $24.00 each will do a complete car with some left over.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Now I can spend a little time on my '73 to get it back on the road. Atleast I don't have anymore boxes of '74 parts taking up space.

Car looks fantastic. Repaint was a great idea. You've done a great job bringing this car back to new.

That car looks great!
I was a bit confused by the title. I thought that this car was some Frankenstien hybrid of Mopar and Pontiac Aztek parts! I like YOUR car as it is though. Great job.

Thanks everyone. Yep, I'm glad that I went ahead and did the repaint. Took some heat for it, but I'm 100% satisfied with the results.
