Looking for a fiberglass hood for my new Demon. Not sure what would look the best. A nice sixpack hood always looks good but thinking about a cowl hood. I do also like the 72 Demon snorkel hood scoops. What do you guys think?

Also, if anyone has one laying around, let me know. Prefer a bolt on.

how fast do you go on the 1/4. i've found that once you start going faster than 140mph the old 6 pak is hurting areodymanics & performance. i'm pulling my 6 pak off & going 6" cowl next season.

US Body Source has a SRT style hood for Demons. Similar to an AAR scoop. I can't copy the pic.

ANYTHING BUT THE COWL!!!!
I never understood those(yeah yeah,I know...clearance.)
If clearance is an issue use the old stlye 7" snorkel raked to the windshield.

You`ve been defending the cowl crap forever and trust me, yours is NOT very(if at all)functional.......

It`s a chevy scoop..............just my personal opinion. After looking at old time slips and jetting notes I have to say that my 6-pack scoops doing more than I thaught. Went from a 10.50 w/stock jetting to a 10.03 w/optimal jetting w/a sealed 6-pack scoop so you tell me. Plus, it was a pig w/out the hood............

You finally got your jetting right and the sealed
scoop doesnt let in heated air... move the scoop
up into the air flow and it will start to pressurize
the intake.... I'm running a ALMOST factory cowl
on my Rampage but its not close enough to the windshield
so I will run ducts from the front into the cowl
with a loover on the back of the cowl... I will open
the loover when its raining for the street

That may be the case.....................either way, I personally prefer foreward facing MOPAR scoops over cowls except maybe in a blown or turbo applicating where packaging is an issue.

Mr P, for once I disagree with you lol. No way is the outside air gonna pressurize any intake manifold on a running engine by going down the track.

you guys so anti chevy,i bet when u save 4 or 500 hundred on a chevy crank for ur mopar or few hundred on chevy rods, its ok then!! I AM COWL MAN,and i bet it is functional for aero dynamics, the trick is u need an airpan when doin 135mph or better

NO cowl Just came back from RT 66 raceway today. There were a good number of Mopars at the test and tune. There were 2 mopars with cowl hoods and they did not look good. A couple of people sitting behind me thought the cars were chevys.

It dropped me 2 tenths as well, its the cooler air that makes it faster, not the pressure.

Really its your car and you have to go with what you like. Sorry guys but we all have an opinion and that dont mean we hate each other. But Chevy cowl or not I think it is butt ugly on a Mopar but thats just me. I always liked the factory look alot. And I do like the twin factory scoops but they dont work to good. Ron

It`s a chevy scoop..............just my personal opinion.

I guess nobody's ever seen a 1970 Roadrunner/GTX hood before??? Looks like a cowl hood to me

If guys would say that they wanted to install a "tall '70 Roadrunner hood scoop" on their car instead of saying "cowl hood", maybe the die hard Joe Dirt Mopar guys would like the idea better???

Or MAYBE, Mopar DID copy the cowl hood on the '70 Plymouth B-bodies off of sixties Camaros......... much like they copied the back window on '68 to '70 Chargers off of '66-'67 GM cars too........So, I guess Chargers have "Chevy" back windows.......

A cowl or 6pack scoop would look best on a demon IMO.
To me, its all about how the body is shaped and how the lines flow.
A squared off 67-9 dart would look best with a hemi scoop for example.

the 6 pak scoop definately has it's appeal but as i asked before, how fast are you running with the 6 pak? the cowl definately is more aerodynamic & instead of upping to that huge elephant looking snout/scoop that the Pro Stock classes run, i'd rather have a cowl, chevy look or not, the cowl is a better option if you want to be fast.

I vote for a cowl hood. Chevy haters can stuff it where the sun doesn't shine.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Dont hate Chevies at all just dont care for the cowl on Mopars as it dont look to good to me on Mopars. But thats just me and my opinion as I dont mean to offend anyone as if you run a cowl thats cool for you or who ever as its their car. I will admit the cowl looks better then the big areo Pro Stock type scoop. Ron

and dont forget about X heads or 906heads also we cant use stroker cranks, aftermarket pistons or how about just draw the line at the point that it has to be a correct resto to work, you know all these aftermarket parts are not mopar, most of them are more chevy based so better stop using them im going for a cowlhood the next time around

Um, hate to get back on topic, but the questions was what do you think LOOKS best?

In my less than humble opinion, anything but a cowl LOOKS the best on an old Mopar. 6-pack, twin, Hemi, etc. Pick one. They all look better than a cowl scoop.

I haven't went 150 in my car, nor do I ever have plans to, so I could care less which scoop is the most aerodynamic at those speeds for my car. All I know is every time I see an 60/70's era Mopar at the track with a tall cowl hood scoop I think the car would LOOK better with something else. However I've yet to walk past a 9 second Dart with Hemi scoop and think "Wow, he'd be faster and more stable with a cowl scoop. He's really dumb for running that".

Boxy cars like Darts/Road Runners = Hemi scoop
More rounded shapes like Dusters, E-bodies = 6 pack scoop

I find myself in need of a new fiberglass hood and scoop for my Duster.. The only problem I have is I cant find the one I like.. !!!

There is no clearance for a 6 pack hood scoop as the motor has been set back and the air cleaner would hit the back edge of the scoop.. So I am forced to find something that is raised near the firewall..

So far, the only options I see is the cowl.. or have something custom made... which we all know is $$$

I`ve only been 134mph but have seen guys in the 8`s w/a 6-pack scoop so who knows. Of course a cowl is more aero that`s a no brainer however it looks out of place on a mopar........enuff said.

I think every body should keep this in mind that this is a general conversation and each person has their view on the subject , no one is hacking on a individual person , it's just their opinion. There is no doubt that a Hemi scoop grabs air as does the 6 pac but at a certain speed they will become a hinderance, The air velocity will try and sometimes succeed to rip it off. Ask me how I know that.

It`s all good.............you`re that one that told us to "stick it" so of course I was defending myself and reversing the threat/statement.

That's a NICE looking Demon. The Demon I had years ago had the stock dual snorkel scoops and I think that is the best looking hood by far..... if you can find a good fiberglass replica.

Since it's a street car, my second choice would be a cowl. If you get caught in the rain, etc., your engine compartment isn't "collecting" debris like a forward scoop would.

very true, my glasshood is a very nice and stable one but with the sicpack scoop there is massive lift forces at high speed for sure, however on a 68chevelle i used to own with a L88 scoop there was clearly lots of lift forces also however this hood was nowhere near as wellmade as the one on my duster so its kind of hard to give a fair comparison one advantage with the cowlstyle is that its alot easier to tie the hood down to the car where the most lift is with a cowlhood compared to a forward facing scoop..

I love a cowl on an A-body,just looks mean and it Ain't a dam Chevy scoop when it's on a mopar! We are not talking about a concours showcar here but I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion!

Back in 1983, a guy at the tech school had a 67 or 68 Cougar with an A body dual snorkel. Not something I would do, but didn't look bad.

6-pack hoods on A-bodys look terrible.

You`ve been defending the cowl crap forever and trust me, yours is NOT very(if at all)functional.......

mine is for clearance, and I wanted something that flowed with the car, and it will do the job. Buddy of my spent good money on a 6-pack hood for his 69 Dart. Now he can't wait to get it off. It look out of place. If I had an A-body, oh wait I've had a few, I'd run a HEMI scoop on 67-69 and a demon snorkel on the 70-up. I even saw a 70 Dart last year w/ a 5" Hemi, it looked pretty good. And so do the cowls on Darts if the are put on right. FWIW if your scoop isn't 3" or taller I doubt it catches much air.

I think the 72 snorkel with the sizzler stripes looks great.

Like I said, your scoop is not taking in much(if any)air but as you said it`s for clearance only. My scoop definately takes in air cos it`s full of dirt after a cruise here in the desert and after racing and it like 4 1/2 inches tall but if I could fit an 8" aero scoop and still be legal I would.

I vote sixpack. I know a guy that had a Dumpter (Duster) that had a six pack hood installed on backwards to meet rules. Looked terrible but gave him the clearance he needed. No cowl hoods belong on Mopars. It's a Chevy thing.

Pics for all you cowl hood haters....running a 9" FORD. What a joke. Buy an AAR smooth COWL HOOD. NOTHING looks better on Demon's.

DaKuda, from the looks of things, not a single one of those cowl scoops in your A body pictures is close enough to the windshield in order to make it function correctly. So all its really there for is additional hood clearance. Plus the fact that they are just butt-ugly on a Mopar, or even some Chevy's. Those things started out low, like on the original Chevelles or 70 Road Runner, and then grew to ridiculous, clown-car proportions. Might as well run fiberglass fender flares and paint polka dots on the car.

what's even but-uglier is a six pack hood on anything other than a 6-pack car (A-12) MAYBE on a 68 Coronet or RR... A-body's look much better w/ a HEMI scoop or cowl. On a 70-up A-body the best scoop would be the snorkel.

Myself I love the 6pk hood on alot but not all Mopars. I have never been a fan of cowl hoods but I wont knock them as to each his own and I would think the car owners will use what they like. That said I think this Dart looks great with the 6pk scoop and we plan to put the 6pk scoop on my boys Dart also. Ron

I have a cowl hood on my '67 Dart. I got it because it was a bargain at a swap meet and I wanted a fiberglass hood. In my opinion you wouldn't go wrong with either selection you mentioned, although the pro stock snorkel you posted doesnt look right to me.

Better get inside Ma. Looks like a storm's comin'.

There's alot of 'opinions'in this thread, everyone has different taste. I loved the 6-pack scoop on my 69 Dart, nothing in my opinion would have looked better on it, although a cowl would have been cool too. To say 6-packs are only for A12 cars is rediculous.

My 72 Duster will have a dual snorkel scoop on it.

cowl hoods look killer on a demon....
besides ...a 70 road runner hood is basically like a cowl hood..although it doesnt get air from the cowl...
but in appearance..i think its basically the same look

U no it seems funny that most cowl type hoods have some sort of forward facing scoop on top of them to catch the fresh air .Don't get me wrong i like the cowl hoods but i do see that some do modify them for fresh air .

I'm enjoying this thread

I too am in the need of a new hood for a Demon. Sometimes what you are trying to put under/in the hood scoop has a lot to do with the scoop choice.

Use whatever you like and will fit. Some engine combinations make a six pack hood almost impossible to use due to lack of clearance. I have used them all. The six pack set up was with a stock headed BB,(oh yeah it went 9.60's), the cowl(crappy pic) was with a low deck B1 and we tried a six pack set up but would not work without a ridiculously tall scoop, and lastly the hybrid one is a 99 Hemi.

I had a six pack scoop on my Demon, I never did like it. I think the cowl hood scoop looks a lot better if you are only going for looks or clearance.

I love the look of the snorkel scoops, thats my vote.

So you sold the old Demon and now have a new one?

Whats your intentions with the new one? Any pics?

I have had 6 pak and now a cowl and I like the cowl better. You can see the carb from inside the car in case of a fire, can reach in to put on / take off the carb cover plate. If a big leak happens you will be the first to see it as the stuff gets on the windshield.

I have seen a larger version snorkel in the past myself. Dont know if it was a AAR. But I did see a bigger version of the snorkel in the past and loved it. I love yours too. How long have you had yours?

I think I got it in 2010 after bugging the heck out of them (AAR) to put this scoop in their product line.

IMO, This is the best looking scoop. However sealing this scoop to the hood (mine was stock height) slowed my car down a tenth & half. I have heard many of others with the same results. If they worked they would be on all the stockers, & super stockers.

I would go with the factory snorkel hood. we got a cross rammed hemi under one and no one expects to see it in there.

Here's a pic of my Demon, has the factory dual snorkel look, but it's the 1" taller model to clear the carb, it's from AAR fiberglass, nice bolt on!

Factory snorkle is hard to beat for looks on almost any a-body. Just my biased opinion.

"For all of these photos you show of cars w/cowls, there`s WAY more running a real mopar scoop..............to each his own. If they were that bad ass, pro stock cars would be running em. "
Real Mopar scoops you have got to be kidding me. What is that. Shaker, sure Ford used it 1st, Pontiac Super Duty scoop from the early 60's is very similar to the 6 pk, even the Ford Thunderbolt tear drop scoop(rear facing and predates the Chevy cowl by several yrs) is similar to a cowl scoop. So what scoop is original to what!
Put what you want on your car. To me the cowl looks best on your car.
I've had a hemi scoop, aero snorkel, shaker and now a cowl scoop on my car. To me the cowl looks best and I laugh at those that say its not a Mopar scoop.
Really what is that.

Ok

Its your car and you have to go with what you like. You are the only opinion that matters on your car. That said this is my buddies Demon that he bought like this. And you know what ?? He wants to put a cowl hood on it because he likes cowl hoods on his Mopar or any car. As for me I told him not to as I am not a big fan of them on Mopars but .......hey thats just me. I love the older factory looking scoops and I tried to talk him out of putting the cowl on it but he plans to later and I am happy for him if thats what he wants. I have to admit the factory snorkal looks pretty good on the Demon but as Mr P body says does it really pull enough air ? I really dont think my Maxie scoop on my 63 dont pulls much air at all because of how short and where it is at. But I would rather run a flat hood then put a cowl on my 63 and thats because I think it would not look good on my 63 and as I said ..........hey thats just me. Everyone has their own opinion so I am only suggesting what I think looks nice on the Demon but I dont want to make anyone angry about it because we dont all always have the same opinion and thats ok. Myself I would use the snorkal or the stock height six pack and I would put small holes in the back like Thumperdart did on his 6pk to let some air out and help fight hood lift at high speeds. Whatever you use just make sure You like it. Ron

I have a huge blower coming out of the hood and not wanting to do a mopar style scoop cause of how big of a hole I have to cut in it. I take it no one makes a to the windshield cowl for the dart/demon?

Is that a aar hood? I would stay cowl but I've had a six pack on my car for ten years so I am ready for a change.

Thanks Airwoofer. I am building it for Outlaw10.5 and plan on some RvsW "Radial vs the World" on 315 drag radials.

Glasstek will make whatever you want also. Pretty much all of their hoods start off as regular flat hoods...then they cut and mold on whatever scoop you want, so placement shouldn't be a problem. Really nice stuff!
