Can you put a 2003 2.4 (non-turbo) DOHC PT engine into a 2001 PT?? What would have to be retro-fitted, or swapped?? Both vehicles are automatic, if it matters.

I dont completely remember the year cut off, but some use a nex gen controller, and some use a older version. You can tell by the number of grey plugs on the computers. If its got 3 its the older version, if its got 4 plugs its a NGC. The difference is the tone wheel on the crankshaft I believe. Its been a few years since Ive had one appart, but I think its on the crank, not the flexplate. so as long as the controlers are the same it should work. Otherwise it will never get a good crank referance, and never fire.

Nope, `01-`02 are the same, `03-up have a different tone wheel on the crank.
