I have a 1972 Chrysler passenger car 440 engine with a forged crankshaft. It appears that the harmonic balancer is for an internally balanced engine (it has no asymetry and is approximetly one inch in thickness)
It does have the clocked or asymetric bolt pattern for the main pulley. Is this an internally balanced engine and how can I tell. I no longer have the flex plate.

If it is not an HP engine and has a forged crank it is indeed internal balance .

HP or not, the cast crank didn't arrive until '73. I'm curious that the damper has the asymmetric pattern, '72 was the first year for the symmetric pattern.

Yes I was curious about that also. That aside , the 440 HP and the 6pk were external balance in 70/71, I guess I should have been more specific .
