hey guys I have a 318 I am thinking of throwing together just so I can get my barracuda back on the road while I am building a nice 360. Ipretty much have everything to get it runnig other than just a couple things.
Anyways its a the original 318, but it been taken .030 over about 50,000 miles ago. Has flat top pistons w releifs, that sit .015 down.
Have a set of good 915 j heads, 1.88 160 valves. with 901-16 springs.
have a nice modified, 360 4bbl intake, 600 carter.
The cam is a Engle ep-18hyd
260/260 adv duration
216/216 at .050
.456 lift in and exst
113lc 108int cl
1 5/8" headers
So what kind of power do you think this thing woul make?
Most of this stuff is leftover peices and parts of cars that I have bought, i will probably need to put about $75 to 100 into this engine to get it running. After i get the 360 done I will probably put this engine into an old Duster or dart for my Son.

I'll guess 275 ish HP. It should be a good running engine. Plus its a lot more motivating to have a project car that runs and drives instead of just sitting in the garage.

Im sure it will be alot more fun, than the .484 purple cam with a flat lobe, and the m-1 single plane intake it had befor!!!!! NOT a good combination with the stock converter and 2.76 gears! Now it will have 3.55s and a factory high stall converter!
And yes motivation is whats killing me right now, I just want to drive this thing, even if its not very fast!!!
pic ofthe car!

If the 318 isn't going to be turning high rpm's (4000+) regularly, the extra compression from the stock 318 heads may help with torque for street use (and the smaller valves will not hurt). I'd guess the 318 heads (with resulting higher compression) would make for more torque and a harder launch on the street. If the J's are all you have, run them.

I had a similar engine a few years back and it made right at 300hp.

Very budget and very fun!

Ran in the 14's @ 95 mph in the 1/4 mile in a 3,260 lbs. car and pulled decent mileage as well.

If you actually have 15 thousanths deck height I doubt they are stock replacement pistons, and your compression shouldnt be terrible.

I think the springs wont give you enough seat pressure for that cam.

If the intake valves are stock I would get them back cut (a place near me has done it in the past for $16)
