I need to get a little clarification if there is any difference in the shape of the A-Body Rally Mirrors. I purchased a driver side rally mirror in Indy in the early part of the year. At Carlisle I purchased what I thought was the passenger side rally but there is quite a difference in the shape when you compare them next to each other. The passenger side body of the mirror appears to be longer and more pointed in the middle- Is this correct or did I buy an E-body mirror on an A-body base. Additionally I saw a posting that PG had for a set of the rallys and they appear to different shapes also. I just want to make sure before I put them on the car- Thanks for any replies, Ron

And I am pretty sure that A body rallye mirrors are 70 Ebody housings on a different pedestal.

I thought the A-body sport mirrors were the same housing and base as the very rare 70 B-body sport mirror option. The round chrome mirrors are interchangable and have the same base I sure thought.
71 up B-bodies and E-bodies got a different mirror housing and base alltogether.

Thanks for the responses so far but it appears that I'm getting a couple different answers . I have an E-body and the mirrors are identical on both sides. The e-bodies have a longer base with 2 screws where the base for the A-body is shorter and only has 1 screw Am I right ? So in reading the responses so far, the driver side A-body and Passenger side A-body are different shapes correct ?
ONLY 1970 E-body mirrors share the same top housing as the A-body sport mirrors. I think the 70 B-body painted sport mirrors are completely interchangable with the A-body sport mirrors.
I think you have a 71-74 E-body mirror on your E-body. Those are another subject also. There are wide bolt pattern and narrow bolt pattern on the 71 up rallye mirrors. Narrow is early (71-72???)
Here's a 70 E-body right side mirror

What car do you want to put them on? Model and year?
You have A-body sport mirror. Those tops are factory correct for 70 E-bodies ONLY. You will have to buy repro e-body bases. It's easy to swap the passenger side base. On the diver's side you need to uncrimp the 3 remote cables and break the glass I think. Sort of tricky. I've never done it, nor really had the need to.
I don't know what the repro bases cost. But you need to be carefull on the total cost of the swap since the project can appoarch the cost of repro mirror just ready to paint or allready chromed.
You can buy reproduction painted mirror for $250 ea from beaparts. With new glass. I think ben snobar sells repro bases seperate. Maybe TonyD's too???

if they have E body bases and you have an E body YES , if they don't have E body bases and you have an E body , NO .
Steve , I have an A body chrome sport mirror on my 69 bee , the vent window hits it when I open it. So unless the the mirror location is moved on a B body in 70 with the sport mirrors it has to have a slightly different base ... so I was told ????

I want to put the mirrors on a 1970 Plymouth Duster- They both have the short 1 screw bases.

Sounds like you are ready to go. Now the decision will come where to mount the passenger mirror. In the factory location OR test it and move it to where you can see best out of it with your seating location. Should be easier to see out of the passenger mirror on a Duster since it doesn't have a vent window bar to block it.

I don't know for sure down to the part numbers, but I don't think there was a special 70 B-body base. The angle of the door is the same for A and B-body. I would think they moved the mirror fore or aft to not hit the vent window. But I doubt it, read on...
I have a factory installed round passenger mirror in my 68 Barracuda original doors and it hits and the vent window. Can't see out of it to save your life. Many other A-body owners say the same thing. Not a lot of thought put into that one by Mopar That's why I wouldn't put it past Mopar if the all the 70 B's with the sport mirror hit the vent window. Anyone with a factory 70 B-body sport mirror car. Dayclona or the guy with the 70 440-6 Charger vert might know.
Here's a pic of an A and B body round passenger mirror with base taken off of it.
A guy localish to me has sport mirrors on his 70 runner he was the one who told me of the different base , his open and do not hit the mirror .
Not that it's a big deal , if I can get access to a 70 parts manual I will look it up

I have some chrome bases that came off a pair of NOS A body mirrors. I converted a set for my e-body before there were repops. If you could use them you can have them for free.
