How do you do this? Do you have to cut the material in a particular pattern?
I lay the material over it and there's no way to cover it w/o having folds in the material.
Legendary makes a nice run of repro SE headliner mat'l very close to the original, has the thin 1/16 inch foam on the back, is very easy to work with.....black is all thats avaliable, as far as I know, the "nap" of the mat'l is not as soft as the original,.....but it's probally the best mat'l out there?.....comes 55 or 57" wide, and by the yrd, about $25 yrd......if you order it, INSIST they DO NOT FOLD it,....cause it takes weeks to get the creases out!!!!!!! ....have them roll it on a cardboard roll........applying it is easy, use a good (3M) vinyl roof spray can glue, make sure to scrape down the old SE foam, free from "bogies"....otherwise it wont stick, on the consolete spray a good mist coat, let sit for 5 minutes, spray a mist coat on the back of the mat'l, let tack 5 minutes, too heavy a coat will soak thru=junk!........have an assistant hold the mat'l suspended in the air, on the consolete start at the rear, slowly using just your fingers to form the mat'l into shape, no need to press hard, make sure you leave enough mat'l over the edges to wrap around the backside, when your finished with the "face",....turn it over, spray the backside, let tack, fold in mat'l, the headliner can be a challenge,.....start at any edge, but work from the center of that edge outward, to avoid wrinkles, repeat the same technique used on the consolete, on the headliner board.......just remember to let the mat'l "lay" on the glue, don't try to force it down, it will look like crap, after its down wrinkle free, then gently "pat" it down in place......good luck with your project

Ya sure it was Legendary? I just called them and they don't sell such material.

I would be interested in knowing where you can find it in the burnt orange color.
Call Scott at Legendary, he's more intune with the E bodies, than most of the crew there,......or try SMS fabrics,......they have warehouses full of repro/ nos mat'l......burnt orange could be "tuff"......good luck?

Foam? mine is made of a pressed board, similar to cardboard, and is covered with a fuzzy "felt" like material.
the rest of the headliner is also covered with the simple black felt, and the entire headliner was 1 piece of this cardboard like substance, 1 big piece.
I'm not sure that this is factory correct though, since not much else on the car has been. but I also haven't seen enough Gran Coupe Ebodys to know what the factory roof looked like. anyone have good pics of an OEM correct headliner in a gran coupe or SE?

TOM, when I said "foam"......I meant the "foam" residue left on sometimes when you rip off the old mat'l......if you leave it on, it will show thru the new mat'l because it's that thin, and glueing would be an issuse......hence the foam "buggies",,,,,,,use a razor blade to scrape the surface down to a clean smooth surface......and yes the consolete is like a form of compressed fiberboard?.....as is the headliner,....you need to really scrape the surface, otherwise the mat'l will start sagging like most of them do over time........plus driving with the window down just kills the integrety of the glue bond!......so do the best prep job, don't "hurry" it

I also would like to see some individual pics of the SE headliner parts. I want to say the exact shape of the large piece and the other individual. I will either need to buy one or have something similiar fabricated.

A member did make up a few fiberglass headliners for an SE and offered them a few months ago...I'll have to see if I can locate the info...Anyhow...Here's a pic of the overhead console backside with the material still in place...You need to carefully take off the chrome accent trim then remove the old material and foam backer as stated... ...And here's a close-up of the overhead light...There were two styles...Early had the lightbulb area moulded in clear plastic with the lense{and melted fairly quick} Improved had a plastic insert that took the heat better...this pic is the improved style with the insert... ...The headliner is more of a cardboard material and can be straightened out if you build a jig and wet the warped area with water, straighten it up and brace it until it dries...I've done a few this way...I have a Gran Coupe headliner with the material off if anyone wants pics of one...Anyhow here's a pic of a harness and the lowfuel relay.. ....And a pic of the low fuel relay in it's position behind the glovebox liner... ....

OK, I snapped a few pics of my barracuda overhead console and headliner...this is the legendary material and as stated is very close to the original..The material does'nt photograph very well and although it looks washed out it's as black as the rest of the car upholstery...And don't mind the dirty camera lense either... ... ...Don't forget, the sail panels get the cloth material treatment also...I use 3M super trim adhesive for the headliner installs and have'nt had any drop yet.. check out my super tweeters behind the coathangers...they really separate the sound, have a wonderful staging affect and really are'nt as noticeable as in the pics in real light..Best part is no factory pieces are modifyed and can be taken out any time with no issues... ...

I believe that member Barnabas Kriss either found or had some of the correct headliner material made and had some extra for sale.
An old thread resurected.. Have'nt seen Barnabas post on here for quite a while...He also has the overhead console indicator lense at a very reasonable price...I bought a few for future projects a while back and they're a nice piece..
Only other install advice at this point would be :
I'm anal about details and some of the repop material has a "grain" to it...I make sure the grain of the material is uniform between the OH console and the headliner...I've seen some installs where no reguard to the pattern was used and it just does'nt look nearly as good as it could...

Just google "russet 1833 headliner" that will get you started! It's an excellent match! Looks great in person.
Here is a picture of the actual Russet color, the sample pic appeared more brown, in person it is orange. For an FK5 car. Very happy with how it turned out. See my above post for the "sample pic"
