I'm trying to figure out what this plug is for. Its blue and appears to be coming off of one of the alternator field wires.

Is it blue or violet. If its the violet one your talking about it would go to the temperature sensor in the front of the motor it memory serves me correct.

I'll assume this is a big blk harness,(440/6?), if so the lead, bright blue coming off one of the alternator leads is for the carb solenoid,

Sort of , but that one is not long enough to go to the other side of the intake. did a 70 big block have an idle solenoid on a 4bbl ?

Pat , looks like a bullet connector , ohm it out , see if it goes to the regulator or one of the fields , it could be for the idle solenoid.

Hi Shanker what particular 70 Coronet you working on.I was thinking that dark blue bullet connector was for the key on activated power to the AC or Carb solenoid .Hows the heavilly optioned RT doing these days
The Vacuum retard connector I believe was flat similar to the alt field type connector.Ac or Idle solenoid seems more likely to the one you pictured

If you can wait until later I can check the harness in my charger. It's a Y/O piece as well.

I'm working on the green one. I just finished a top-end rebuild and I'm getting it to the point where everything works (even the A/C) and I could drive it everywhere while I work on the Orange R/T..

My long term plan is to resto the Orange R/T, then sell it to help fund the resto of the green one.

Back to the wiring harness. This Blue wire with the bullet plug is not present on my OEM harness that is not butchered or anything of the sorts.

I've also got the 1970 Charger/Coronet Service manual sitting on the fender of that truck and it does not list that wire either. I'm going to call M&H today.

I got a reply from M&H:
Quote:

The blue wire with the rubber mold on female bullet terminal states that it is for the distributor solenoid. I believe it is actually referencing an idle stop solenoid located on the carburetor. This circuit is tied into the keyed ignition. Cars with the A and E bodies also used an idle stop solenoid when equipped with the 440 v8. However the wire to attach to the solenoid was not included with the engine harness. Chrysler made an extension harness to be used.

So I guess I'll just pull that wire out of the harness since my car is not equipped with the idle stop solenoid anymore.

I've been posting a few pics on facebook....now that I've got it running again I plan on doing a ton of detail work to make it look as good as it possibly can.
