Hey guys,

I picked up some parts the other day and need some help on the applications.

The first is a 4spd tranny with c-97372 on the case and a aluminum tag on the cover that has 11-4-66 stamped into it. The tail shaft has C-956647 cast into it.

I have another one that says c99129 and the tail c99126 and on the stamped pad says PP8332819 on the pad with 152 beside it and I guess a partial vin of 9B360756.

Lastly I have one that says the same as the one above, but the stamped pad says p8332617.

I also have a cast iron bellhousing that the numbers look to be a half inch in height and much wider than normal. Hard to see what they say, but the first couple of number seen to be 28. Never seen one with numbers so large cast into them. Anyone seen something like this?

I have a power steering pump with c-3643012-f cast in it. Is that all A-body's?

Thanks for any help guys !!

Are you sure the "2617" isn't "2817"? - Monday 4/14/69 assembly date

Are you sure that partial VIN doesn't start with an 0?

Could be, I'll have to double check that one.

So if you knew they were both A body transmissions what info were you trying to find out? You posted for the most parts casting numbers off the cases, except for the tailshaft casting number which can be used to identify the tailhousing, all the main cases in particular years used the same casting number whether it's a hemi trans or not so that number is basically useless to ask about.

I'm just trying to figure out what you wanted to know as I refrained from answering because I didn't know what info you were after, I see this same type question asked a lot using the somewhat generic casting numbers posted.

Other than the date of manufacture, I was wondering if the numbers would indicate a particular application? Were there different 23 spline transmissions used in a particular year? In other words, would a 340 car get the same trans as a slant 6 or 318 if all were made in '69?

Trying to determine exactly what I have.

Thanks !!

I typed out something long but I was going from memory on some of it and one of my stalkers would jump up and down and call me an idiot for misquoting something so I'll answer the easy question ... in 69 the 318, 340 and the 383 all used the same transmission in the A body , including the same bearing retainer size.

Not sure about the 6 cyl , but did the 6cyl even have a 4 speed behind it after the end of the 66 model year or were they just 3 on the tree ?
