What clips do you all use to hold your pressed (REM Auto) hood pad on to a 69 Cuda? The stock steel ones will not push in far enough to hold it, not even close. Any suggestions from those that have used this pad on this car before? Thank you.
Tom

Maybe you'll need to swap to the newer '70's and up plastic clips? I think they have a longer reach. If they sold you a '69 hood pad, the stock metal clips should work.

Hi Tom,
"400 4 spd." here. I didn't know you are into Mopars! We have a 68 B'Cuda in the shop being finished now. I'll try to find out what worked for us and get back to you.

Tom Hand not into Mopars?? What about the 4cly turbo sleepers, the 69 Cuda fastback.... And his brother's 69? brown notchback 360 lowbuck deal that was in Mopar Action. IRRC, he is/was well known for his Toqueflite rebuilds in K.C. if you can talk him into doing one for you.

Hi, Tom.

I met you in 94-96 with my 68 Notchback with California plates. Probably don't remember me, but I went to school at Iowa State at the time. Bought a rear sway bar and a trailer hitch from you. I think you just tossed in the hitch though. Here's a pic from the fall 96? KCIR show:

Steve and AutoXcuda,
thank you very much. I wanted to use the OEM clips since the mat was to look and act and fit like OEM. However, the new pads are thicker and much less compressible and no way will the metal clips work. The plastic clips must fit because I am not the only one that has bought this fitted pad.

AutoXcuda, heck yes I remember you. It was after the car show at the White Hills Plaza (I think) in Blue Springs MO. You also took white KYB GasAdjust (?) nitrogen shocks off my hands, thanks for that. You graciously helped me clean out lots of stuff from my under step storage area. You were a nice poor college guy needing a great deal and I needed to get rid of the stuff!!

Anything any of you can findout, thank you. I'd hate to leave this off after going to such hard work to add all the insulation back inside my interior.

Yep, my brother-in-laws 68, my old "drive every day car". It has had everything redone top notch, and it is silver blue and runs 12.50s with a hopped up 360. However, he is going back with it to a milder setup to put the AC back on. It was in Car Craft a while back too.

Transmissions yes but exhaust is what I play with all the time. Check out the attached shots and the link to the ad.

Sincerely,
Tom Hand

Gofish, the new pad is around 0.200" thick and it cannot be compressed, yet the head of the clip is only partially in at 0.200". In other words, it will not push in and lock. The OEM pads were soft and compressible. Mine had one and I remember what it was like.

The plastic clips must work but of course, they are the wrong year. But in this case, I am okay as long as they hold it in place safely.

Thank you for the comments.
Tom Hand

I just took those shocks off the front of my car about 8 months ago. And replaced them with some other used shocks They were some low milage QA1 adjustables though.

I didn't use the trailer hitch when I moved all my stuff from Iowa back to Los Angeles in my Cuda. I probably should have though. I loaded my 3500 lbs Barracuda to 5300 lbs with all my junk. Had to add air shocks to keep the mufflers off the ground and the leaf springs not arched the wrong way. Still broke the front K-memeber LCA hole welds though.

This is just what came out of the roof carrier ALONE.

Do you have orginal metal hood clips or the reproduction metal clips?? I've seen where the repro years back didn't fit worth squat and would not be deep enought to "clip" in. My original clip work with my hood insulation I bought from Hardens about in 95?

I bought 8 new and had 10 old, neither work. The pad is too thick and non-compresible. The non-shaped one is likely fine but the new one is not thin enough.

That's a lot of stuff!!!

The reproduction clips look great, but when you go to install them they won't hold the pad on.They are not made from the correct spring steel and the tabs that click in the hood holes will bend.I have been there and now only use original clips.

Wish I could too KillerBee. I have originals, they cannot be pushed in far enough to lock the pad on.The pad thickness is virtually up to and over the large diameter of the clip so no way will it hold. Still wondering if the plastic ones will even work.
Thanks!
Tom

Tom, I replied to your e-mail about what we used, with pics. Here are a couple of the same car assembled. The web site is a little behind on this car.

Back to the original question. I think Tom Race owner of R/T Specialties might know this answer. Call him. He sells the clips and hood mats.

Yes on the 5-speed. Lots of modifications were done on this car.
