anybody use these type of coolers on their trannys? i have a B&M supercooler with a fan but my tranny gets a bit warm the closer i get to the finals. so i was considering putting one of these things in the line back from the cooler on the way to the trans. in effect it should just act as an additional cooler but was hoping to get some feedback from those of you that have used these things.

Maybe they were asleep.
my Duster has one on it for about 7 years no problems.
On my new Cuda I used one that style only it's a double pass

I think it's a fine idea.
I was going to use one for my fuel return back to my aeromotive fuel cell.

What I am getting out of it is that it's just a big open space inside, but I could be wrong. If this is the case there is more contact time I would think, and it's less likely to become damaged should something get kicked up at it.

I beleive the dual pass is the one with the fittings both on one end and the compartment inside is separated by a wall. Single pass is probably wide open inside.

I'd like to see for verification.

Either way, it's an aluminum heat sink and it will dissipate heat so you cant lose. Plus they are cheap.

I have a moroso double heat sink style w/ 2 tandum fans works well as long as the car is running to move the fluid through it. I have a 3rd heat sink mounted down the same line. I also use a TCI deep ribbed pan. I can usually keep the temp below 200*-225* hot lapping.I also use Mobil 1 ATF to battle the heat.

A friend is using one on his Dart, and seems to work very well.

thanx boys for the feedback. i wasn't too sure if they were any good or not but now i'm feeling ok about buying one. there are some cheaper dual pass units on e-bay, is there anything i should look out for? are they all basicly the same? i've done a measure & can fit a 15" onto the chassis rail under the car that should clear all obsticles including driving on the trailer. i've looked to try & find what a dual pass looks like on the inside but can't find anything. does anyone have a schematic?

Would you put this before or after a tranny cooler?

Just thinking out loud here BUT if the single is just
a open hole in there I would think that the fluid
would run through the center(easiest flow path) and
the fluid on the outer area would act as a insulator...
the fluid needs to touch the alum to really drop the
temp.... thats why a radiator has all the tubes to
get the surface area... JMO

was looking to fit this on the return line from the fan assisted cooler, my cooler is in the back of the car above the diff.
Mr P i can see what you're thinking but i somehow doubt the fluid could just pass thru the middle without mixing with the rest of the fluid in the cooler.
Loco, thanx for the offer but yours is too big for my application but thanx anyway. REB

These extrusions are also finned on the inside, so I would think there's probably enough surface area to do the job.
Might not do as good as a large tube/fin type cooler, but I would think pretty close since the flow is slowed down and there is more contact time for heat to transfer.

I am going to use one out front in addition to the cooler/warner thing in my radiator. I'm not making 700+ hp like a lot of you guys so I would think it would serve me well.

For the price they seem like a good deal.

I also want one with -8 fittings on it so I can cool the return fuel to my cell.

I'm a fan of these, But don't personally run one. I think the added capacity helps a lot and they seem to be on about every dragster up here that consistently goes rounds.

wow thats huge dollars for that B&M version. i was looking at ones on E-bay @ $32.00. whats the difference between them besides how deep your pocket needs to be to buy one?

Size and Quality would be my guesses. That B&M cooler I posted holds 4 quarts of fluid. Its more like an auxiliary tank meant to increase capacity and offer cooling, rather than just a quick pass through heat sink.

But, without holding both, it's just speculation.
