So what would cause one to stick two rods out the side of the block? I can see through the hole in the block that the two big ends still spin perfectly on the crank but they both apear to have just simply broke for no reason Customer whants to know why his durango would do this to him at just 109,000 miles I told him the rods just plain broke for no reason.

We had a V12 toss a rod through the block for no obvious reason. It was a first for our high volume shop. When the engine was torn down the burn ring at the top of that cylinder was taller than the other cylinders. It seems the engine drank some water and survived for a while. I guess the owner finally got on it one too many times and it blew the rod out the side of the block.
Perhaps something similar happened with that one.

The powdered metal con rods are very strong until there is a problem.Sounds like Piston/pin problem, possibly coolant in the cyl.Piston may be broken at the pin.Common when they scuff but rare.Top ring land broken? Any pics? Year?

Most likely hydrolocked it from leaky head gasket, especially if it did it when starting first thing after sitting for a good bit. Water ingestion is also a possibility but I have personally seen 3 do this from headgaskets..All high (130k+) miles
The pic is one that did surprising little damage, unfortunally it just taged the block enough to crack it...bearings and crank were perfect.
