Anyone here use Pennzoil Ultra engine oil? Just curious...now that Kurt Busch and his Penske Racing #22 Dodge are sponsored by Pennzoil, I've been looking at some of their products (plus, I get six billion emails, texts, etc. from them now). I know that regular Pennzoil is junk, and have for years, but how about the Ultra/synthetic stuff? Maybe it's not so bad? I try to support Dodge sponsors as best as I can, but I REALLY do not want to start using Pennzoil..ugh!

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I don't use Pennzoil or Fram filters because of past quality issues. I try to use Valvoline and WIX but can't always do it, but never resort to Fram or Pennzoil. Maybe they are better now? It would be nice if there was an independent test of all the modern motor oils so we could make an informed opinion.

I use it in the wifes 07 Jeep Grand with 107,000 miles.Probably overkill but she uses the vehicle like a police car and it needs all the help it can get.

Once burned, twice wary!! Penzoil and Fram have developed over the years a rep and tests to show their low quality. I'm not willing to try them, especially Fram!

I do not like penzoil but as said it is now the oem mopar oil supplier. If you were to buy mopar oil it is penzoil and it is what is put in at factory.

Mopar using pennszoil is a bean counters choice not an engineers.

Pennzoil,Quaker State and Shell are all the same company under the Shell umbrella. The oil comes from the same source as does many other brands of oils.

A very good site on oil is www.bobistheoilguy.com

Nautilus Racing-
We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

The Pennsoil synthetics have been quite good for years. I haven't used the Ultra offering yet, a trip to BITOG would be a good idea if you want to know about any oil.

Not really. They could have bought oil from any of the oil companies. After they lost Mobil they needed another supplier for the full synthetic oil. They chose Shell-Pennzoil.Is cost a factor?,probably but so is quality.Do you know what the regular dino oil they used was over the years? If you did you wouldn't like it. All the engine testing is done with the same oils that are installed in the vehicle at the factory.I have done hundreds of oil analysis samples over the years and never an oil related failure. While there are differences in oils they are small they all have to meet the GF4,5 std of today.BTW I doubt cost is much of a factor at Ferrari

Big shift in Pennzoil quality for the better over the past several years. Do some research, very good oil in the right applications now. 30 years ago, when Arnold Palmer promoted it, not so much.

So, am I crazy to switch to Ultra just because of the Penske sponsorship? I've always run Valvoline and WIX filters and never had a oil or filter related problem...?

I'd try Pennzoil Ultra before any other Shell oil product, but maybe I'm better off to just buy gas at Shell and stick with Valvoline?

I would say so. Advertising is no reason to switch.
