I want to repaint my woodgrain steering wheel. It is in a 68 charger but I believe it is from a 66 or 67 B Body. Anyhow, I read a posting on here a long time ago from a guy who said restored his by painting with black primer and then going over it with a mixed color (brown and yellow krylon or maybe it was rustoleum. He then took a piece of a hacksaw blade to etch to the black primer and then clear coated. Does anyone have more specific information than mix yellow and brown? Has anyone else tried this method for painting the wheel or does anyone else have a better suggestion?

I guess I'll take that as a slam against the hobbiest. You have no clue as to this persons capability and what he might be able to accomplish on his own. There are some who actually build their own cars, I'm one of those. I am the guy who is referenced, if this wheel isn't 'professional' that's ok, I did it myself.

Take it however you want. I didn't mean it as a "slam against the hobbiest" We are all hobbiests at the beginning. You done a fine job on your wheel and I hope it lasts a long time. He asked for a "better" solution and I gave him one. I don't see anybody else suggesting anything.

If the OP wants he can search Moparts for the thread regarding doing your own steering wheel resto, which was very informative, which had your valued input as well Dave on the subject, as well as many others, that's what we're here for...Thank you

Or if the price of sending it out, or the task of doing it himself is not possible, and 100% OEM is not a concern,..Mike Ross has a repro wheel available at www.BEAParts.com

I didn't restoring your own steering wheel was such a touchy subject. I will figure out a paint color. It would be nice to send the wheel off but I have spent too much money right now and am trying to save. The wheel isn't cracked but needs to be freshened up. If it doesn't look like a pro did it when I am finished, I would have to be a pretty crap job for it to look worse than it does now.

I have tried it but the color came out to dark and the woodgrain is missing in places. It looks better than it did but for a driver only. Take a picture when its done I would like to see it.
