I'll be talking to the owner later this week, so I'll see what I can find out. As I didn't build it. I just get to put it in. and fire it up

Can't wait to see the Dyno numbers Over 700 HP? Cool. I wish my 496 made that much HP.

Thanks Ken

And on a side note, today went well.
And with no issues it should be be back in the chassis early next week.

All the clutch components are in. Scattershield was already doweled so I didn't have to worry about dialing it in. And it's now painted and installed with all new grade 8 hardware, and I even remembered to put the block saver on.

Got the trans stripped and painted today. So it will be connected tomorrow afternoon.
Nobody had header gaskets for a big block mopar on hand.so they should be in in the am. But all in all , today was good day.

Trans was all scratched up and painted hemi orange. Which just blends on against the Vitamin C Orange floor pans.
So, it went from this,,,,,,,,

Hit a little snaffu,
Turns out the water pump housing is a 69 and older casting, with the heater hose nipples being the same 5/8" size.
Car is a 1970 and thus requires a one at 1/2" and one at 5/8"

Did a bit of digging and came up with a nipple with the 3/8" NPT size and yet it has the port size for the the 1/2" heater hose. Much easier then tracking down a new water pump hsg.

With a brand new water pump installed, all the pulleys installed with new hardware, upper and lower radiator hoses are now on with new clamps.

With a little luck we'll be mating the engine and trans back together this weekend. And be re-installing it all back in the chassis on sunday afternoon

Needing someplace to mount the MSD box became an issue. Away from major engine heat and/or any moving parts.

I had looked into installing it under the dash, but with it being a 4 speed car ruled that out quickly.
So, next logical choice was under the battery tray. And so I'm told will not be an issue with extending the units wiring.

I made the brackets.
and did multiple test fits before welding them in place. As mounting them with bolts/screws was not an option as the screw heads would dig into the bottom of the battery. So, I fired up the mig.

I was advised it's best to have the regulator as close the carbs as possibile to avoid pressure drops.
So, I had a new #8 stainless line made to run from the main body line up to the,, now carb mounted pressure regulator.

Thanks to Dave at Instant Karma Racing in Walton Ky.

With the battery tray now painted body color like it's supposed to be. I mounted the MSD box and started running wiring.
Still reasonabley accesable to change the RPM chip if need be, but very much out of the way.

It's being converted to a hydraulic clutch, which was a bit of a challenge to get right( but thats another story all by itself)

Now all plumbed and ready to bleed the system. Again thanks to Instant Karma racing for providing the adapter to connect it all.

It's pretty scarry to think that this engine that you're building / tweaking is going to have at least five times the gonads of what I'm currently running. Hopefully someone under the age of 17 won't be allowed to sit behind the wheel of this deadly vehicle.

So will this be an alcohol burner or will it be running on something like 100 octane aviation fuel?

Deadly vehicle ? I'm not sure how to take this comment.

But I assure you, the owner is a long way from being just some kid.

and BTW, it's a pump gas motor, albeit it's going to have to be REALLY good gas.

I like the Burnt Orange very well also. One of my all time favorites is Burnt Orange and white. I have only seen it twice. Burnt orange floor, dash, a pillars & kick panels with white seating and door panels. Is that a burnt orange rim blow wheel I spot on the seat? If so, that is a rare piece.

Bill - call me on the steering column...somewhere in one of the many boxes of parts I gave you there is a Flaming River steering coupler that needs to be installed and have a hole drilled in the column shaft.

Bill...Looks great so far, probably more work than first anticipated.
I would love to be bustin knuckles and turnin wrenches on that one. I understand why and I'm glad the owner chose your shop to get it done!

Are we allowed to post "business" project updates here?

Alan,
Theres been a few suprises- mainly with the hydraulic clutch. But overall so far so good. And I think I'm inline with my original estimate.

All the drivetrain is in. Exhaust is hooked up, driveshaft is in.
Owner had the electric pump re-built and it showed back up today, so it'll go back in tomorrow..
Got the steering column in with the flaming river coupler today and it's plugged in. And it's now back down on it's 4 wheels

I have to get the clutch and the brakes bled this week, then do a final shifter adjustment.( can't get it in reverse) .
I have to pick up some fuses tomorrow, double ck over everything and see what it gets me.

SO, with a little luck it might be running this weekend.

And I WILL do a video, I'm dieing to hear this one run.

Part of the deal is to redo the six 15" rallye's and they were kinda rough. I figured out real quick it was more cost effective to have them dipped. And I just picked them up this afternoon. Then I'll paint them myself in the correct colors.

BTW, you should see the dash looking thru the
re-done burnt orange rimblow steering wheel. It makes for a very nice view.
here's a tease

Awesome build Can't wait to see it all done.
Not to sound like a pain or anything but have you thought about painting the dist. cap black or something, just so it doesn't stick out against that beauty. I painted mine black because the red and orange just clashed.

not bad , not a bad view at all
Pictures do not do it justice, your going to just have to take my word for it.
All the gauge lettering is nice and bright white (obviously new ), instrument panel bezel was redone with all new chrome and lettering. and the wheel just sets it off .

Well, I got few pieces back from the platers last week. So once the shop move is done( are they ever )
I'll get back on it. With the goal to have this one completely done in the next 2 - 3 weeks.

As Dr Frankenstein once said......... IT'S ALIVE'

We fired it up last thursday afternoon.

Gotta fix an exhaust leak at the header evac tube fittings , Bleed the clutch and the brakes. Then it's a matter of pull it outside and shoot a short video for the owner.

All I can say is WOW 700 plus HP sounds REALLY good thru 3" TTI pipes.

With no issues the owner will be driving it about the 1st of May sometime.

till then , heres a teaser.

Dynamated the floorpans. And as an FYI, plan at least 2 times what you think it's going to take to do this stuff.

Once a few pieces of dash trim show up , the instrument panel/glove box area can be buttoned up.

I wanted to get the brakes bled and pull it outside today but it's been raining the last 4 days.

While I'm waiting on a video cable to show up so I get real videos off my camcorder to show up.
I'm putting the finishing touches on the interior.

All the seats came to me already done. So I can't take credit for those. But the original seats backs were in really sad shape. With new plastic seat backs, again already painted and hopefully ready to install.

These are the Palco products. And I've heard all the horror stories about fitment and was really worried.

But, I have to say I was plesantly supprised with how well they fit.

Jason from Gunslinger stopped by over the weekend and dropped off this neat addition.

The pistol grip looks so much better in there.

I also have to say , I learned a valuable lesson this week with aftermkt shifters.( it's a comp plus under the boot and with a stock handle)

Seems there is a plate that sandwiches between the shifter body and the mounting plate on the trans and it WILL prevent you from getting reverse, trust me.

Another issue I was worried about was the accelerator pedal to heal pad position on the carpet, another long known issue with ACC carpets . But I believe it's about as close to factory stock one can get.

Overall I have to say the carpet was a real pleasure to install. With lots of extra material, fit was real nice where it needs to be and it laid down very well.

Oh , I will . Grille goes in today. Then the exterior will be done.

We ran into a leaking brake valve when bleeding the brakes. The new one goes in today and if the weather holds out maybe I'll take the 1st 'test' drive.

Yes, put all of about 3 miles on it, and never opened all 3 carbs up one time, I swear.
It goes in the trailer tonight and will be back in the owners hands before dinner time tomorrow afternoon.
I brought it home to clean it up. Then picked my daughter up at school and took it back to the shop.
And it absolutly made her day
