How are the mounting points sealed where the Trunk finish panel attaches on my Barracuda or do they need sealing? I have an NOS panel but it did not have any gaskets or anything around the mounting studs?

I just refinished my tail panel on a 69 GTX. It looks like the factory squeezed some kind of a permanently flexible goop in the speed nut before they put them on. Of course if water never hits the car (either rain or washing) the question is moot.

Mine does not have the speed nuts? They are lock nuts with the plastic inserts. Maybe I need to change over?

The trim panel off my 68 Road Runner (stamped piece, not cast like the GTX) had these round foam gaskets between the trunk and the panel. The speed nuts had some type of goo that was all dried out and crumbled. I think betweenthe small gasket and the sealent in the nut, that was the extent of weather protection.

use 3m rope caulk, put the caulk around the studs and install on car,get you some pal nuts this will help with the seal.if you put enough caulk on the studs you will get a water tight seal.
