It was 1491. Columbus had a 340 in the Pinta. The Nina and the Santa Maria had 318s. Pinta was 1 of 1 in that color combo.
1492 they came out with the six pack and made it to land a bit faster. It wasn't until the Pilgrims years and years later that the ThermoQuad came out and made trips across the Atlantic more affordable.

Weren't those the rare reverse-rotation marine engines?
Yeah they were. You can convert them to regular rotation and get twice the life out of them.

It was not 1970...first yr for the 340 was 1968
They didn't make E bodys until 1970 so I think it was 1970 because anything before that doesn't matter.
Any car made after 1969 and before the turbo Mopars is part of the dark ages anyway.......
I knew I'd get the B bodys guys mad at me...
No b-body guys here..........

'68..... Mine is stamped June 19, 1967. Anyone got an earlier one than that?
I have a 340 intake that has a casting date of 7/31/67 and I was thinking it was early but 6/19? Wow!
finally got out to the barn to check the date on my 340-6/23/67, close but can't beat 6/19

Didn't the Pinta blow up when Santa Maria rear ended it?

Ma Mopar introduced the 340 in the Dart GTS and Barracuda Formula S models in 1968. Production for the 1968 model year started in August of 1967. So some casting dates on those early 340's are from 1967. I think.

If you think about it, there were only two engines that Chrysler never put in a New Yorker or a truck, Hemi's and 340's. So in my book other than those 2, all the rest are just truck engines.
Wrong! Hemi New Yorkers were made from 1954-58...unless they don't matter either.
