I did miss that this carb ran OK on another vehicle. Correct it is not the carb. I have an eddy 600 (1406) w a stock 318 pump & it starts OK tho mileage is terrible (maybe it's flooding some)

Unless you go thicker than the Edlebrock gasket I doubt you'll see any difference. It's basically the same thing as a 1/4" phenolic spacer.

Back in the 90's when I bought my first new 1406, I called tech support who told me that these carbs NEED a 4 hole spacer under them to flow properly. Sure enough, I tried one and eliminated almost all issues, the rest were worked out with proper tuning. Why they simply don't say that in the owner's manual is a mystery...

The thickness of the spacer matters, too. It depends on your engine build and health. The 360 in my W150 needed 1.25". The poly 318 in my 64 Fury needed 1/2". The 440 in the Charger was 1". Just food for thought.

Was each of them OK w more than that but needed at least your posted thicknesses in each instance to avoid percolating? I have a streetmaster (very small runners/fairly small plenum) which is touted as a mileage intake tho it is decades old school and is an open plenum and my heat riser is inop. Any thoughts? What kind of distributor are you running? My dad had this problem (with w a Holley carb) and it turned out the reluctor gap was too wide in the MP distributor.

Never used to be a problem years ago as gas wouldn't evaporate as fast as it does now. Especially the winter gas formulation.

Nature of the beast. AVS, Carter and Eddy have the fuel bowl cast into the carb body. Great for preventing Holley style leaks, but also attracts more heat than the Holley. A 1/2" phenolic or wood 4 hole spacer usually does the trick. Stay away from an aluminum spacer, it attracts and transfers heat just as quickly as the carb bowl itself.

uhh!! i think that is why the stacked alum plate style heat disapater works so well over a solid spacer and 1 gasket for each side

those alum plates never touch the carb, carb stays luke warm on a blistering summer day drive

intake/gasket/plate/gasket/plate/gasket..ect carb sits on top of last gasket

and its a 4-hole spacer for a better vac signal

worked the best here in fl on mine in dog days of summer

If you are talking about the aluminum plates that stick out way past the gasket, yes those would in theory act as a heat sink to keep heat away from the carb. But it all depends on the underhood temps. If the temps are higher than the aluminum plates, then heat is going into the plates instead of out of them. Aluminum heat transfer works both ways, I'd rather rule it out.
